PERSONAL INSURANCE

Personal insurance removes the mental stress for you and your family in the event of loss
of income from serious illness, injury or death. Personal insurance is often your largest
asset outside of your family home.

Term Life Insurance

Total & Permanent Disablement Insurance

Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Insurance provides cover if you are totally and permanently disabled. Your insurer will define TPD as either when:

You cannot work again in any occupation, or
You cannot work in your usual occupation.

TPD insurance helps cover the costs of rehabilitation, debt repayments and the future cost of living.

Trauma Insurance

Trauma Insurance provides cover if you are diagnosed with a specified critical illness. These policies include the major illnesses that will make a significant impact on a person’s life, such as cancer or a stroke.

Trauma insurance pays a set amount. This can be used for things like:

Any private medical costs above your health insurance,
An income stream if you stop working,
The ongoing cost of any therapy and special transport costs,
Adjustments to housing and lifestyle changes,
Debt repayments.

Income Protection

Income Protection Insurance replaces the income lost through your inability to work due to injury or sickness. It is an important consideration for anyone who relies on an income. It is especially suitable for self-employed people, small business owners or professionals whose business relies heavily on their ability to work

Business Expense Protection Insurance

Business Expenses Insurance acts like a sort of Income Protection policy – but for your business. Like Income Protection, Business Expenses Insurance pays a monthly benefit to cover your fixed business overhead expenses if you are injured or ill and cannot work. The benefit generally lasts a maximum period of 12 months.

Rent, leases, some salaries, locums, accounting fees, loan interest, general insurances, telephones, internet, utilities and other eligible business expenses all need to be met to ensure the future of your business.

How much personal insurance do I need?

There are many methods in calculating the appropriate level of cover. One approach is a multiple of income by the number of years income is required.

How do I manage my insurance premiums long-term?

By identifying long-term insurance needs and adopting a Level Premium structure (over a Stepped Premium structure), will ensure premiums not only remain affordable, but will save many thousands over the life of the policy.

How do I structure the ownership of my policy?

There are multiple options regarding ownership. Where appropriate, a policy may be owned by Superannuation, and premiums paid from a Partial Superannuation Rollover, or as part of a Superannuation Contribution.

What happens if I need to make a claim?

How to manage my cash flow?

There are many answers to this question; however, a few that may be of assistance include: –

Whether it be Personal Insurance, Health Insurance, or Home & Contents Insurance to only insure for unacceptable loss.
Structuring your home loan repayments over the long-term, with a redraw facilities.
Reviewing your home loan at least once every 3-years. Experience has shown it is often possible to obtain a more favorable rate, and potentially save thousands over the term of the loan,
Keeping Superannuation Contributions to a minimum in the high cost years, particularly those with children in secondary school, to assist with today’s cash flow.

What should my first or next investment be?

There are many answers to this question; however, one we have found to be of value is considering where you wish to live next. This strategy provides a clear direction both financially and for family lifestyle.

Diarmid Mackiehan

I commenced my working life with Provident Life, first as an administrator, and later as State Manager.

I saw the impact the proceeds of an insurance claim could have on a family. For many, this was the only money that they would receive.

A change of direction in 1966, led me to become an Insurance Adviser.

My advice has included providing an understanding of “How Money Works”. It is my belief once you have this knowledge, you have a better understanding of why you work, and how to have money work for you.

In 2013, as part of my commitment to my clients and future generations (I am the adored Grandfather of four), I wrote and published a book titled, Financial Crossroads Navigated. My message has always been “A lifetime of memories is more valuable than a pocket full of money”.

I have always enjoyed going to work, talking with clients and building new relationships. I would love to opportunity to meet with you.

Louise Mackiehan

While I was at the University of Queensland studying a Bachelor of Information Technology, I worked a number of part-time jobs, one of which was working in our family business doing all the jobs no one had time to do – or liked to do. During this time, I gained a better understanding of the importance of insurance, and how our services helped many families in need.

After finishing my degree and working as a Programmer; it did not take me long to realise my interest and ambition would lead me back to our family’s business. I am very proud to have worked as an Insurance Adviser for over 22-years, completing my Diploma of Financial Planning in April 2002 and having held my Certified Financial Planner status since June 2002. Most of my business is from referrals and I take great pride in being recommended to other people.

Now as a Mother of two girls, I have an even better understanding of achieving the balance between current lifestyle needs and planning for our future quality of lifestyle. This will often result in conflict where both needs compete for the same discretionary income.
